How To Switch From Insurance To Cash Based Chiropractic Clinic
Switching from an insurance based clinic to a cash only clinic can be scary. You've worked hard to build your patient base and you don't want lose them all by making the switch. In fact, I would say that this fear is what keeps most chiropractors from making the switch. In this article I outline three things to keep in mind to help you keep your patients while making the switch from insurance to cash based chiropractic clinic.
1. Communicate The Benefits For The Patient
Patients don't want to hear an excuse or complaint about all the hoops you have to jump through to bill their insurance. Instead, they want to hear how it will benefit them. And there are plenty of them. When having the conversation about the switch, focus how the move will improve their experience at your clinic.
2. Offer Free Visits To Get Them Over The Hump
Not only in this a big change for you, it's a big change for your patients. They're used to your normal routine and now you're asking them to change it all up (and spend more money). You need to recognize this and let them know you understand the impact this has on them. This is why I recommend offering them free visits to get them over the ‘hump’. Something like ‘Buy 10 and Get 5 For Free’. Once they get used to your new cash prices they will likely stick with you for the long haul.
3. Be OK if a Patient Says ‘No’ (Be Confident)
Even with the BEST communication you will likely lose some patients. And that's OK. Coming into you conversation with an understanding that you will likely lose some patients will allow to potray confidence in your decision. Being too ‘wishy washy’ or apologetic about your decision will decrease trust and authority that you are making the change to benefit the patient.
Of course there are many other changes you'll have to make when switching from an insurance to cash based clinic. If you're thinking about making the change and you'd like to chat, please feel free to set up a Free Phone Call Here
